Why go
The bridge is easy to mistake for a street until you see it from the water. Robert Adam's design joined a river crossing to a continuous line of shops, making the bridge part of Bath's built streetscape. The riverbank view reveals the engineering and architecture together, while the crossing leads naturally toward Great Pulteney Street.
What to look for
- Shopfronts continue across the bridge itself.
- The riverside view shows the bridge arches above the Avon.
- Crescent Weir forms a broad curve below the crossing.
Useful to know
- Cross the bridge, then take a riverside viewpoint for the full facade and weir.
- Continue east along Great Pulteney Street if you want to follow the Georgian axis toward the Holburne Museum.
