Republic Square
Republic Square brings together the National Museum, National Theatre and Prince Mihailo monument at the edge of central Belgrade's pedestrian streets. It is a useful orientation stop before choosing a longer visit.
Few places show central Belgrade's cultural landmarks so clearly in one view. The equestrian statue anchors the open space, while the museum and theatre face it from different sides. From here, continue into Knez Mihailova or choose one of the two institutions for more time indoors.
What to look for
Prince Mihailo's equestrian monument stands in the square.
The National Museum and National Theatre frame the space.
Knez Mihailova begins at the square's edge.
Useful to know
Use the square to decide between the museum, a performance or a walk along Knez Mihailova.
Keep the square itself brief if your main aim is an indoor visit.
