Statsraad Lehmkuhl
Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a three-masted sailing training ship associated with Bergen. If it is in port, its rigging and hull make a distinctive harbour sight; public boarding should be checked separately.
Built in 1914 as a German training ship, the vessel later became part of Bergen’s maritime story and took the name of Kristoffer Lehmkuhl. Seeing a working sail-training ship gives a different sense of seafaring than a museum model. Its many masts and dense rigging are the main reward from the quay when the ship is present.
What to look for
Three masts carry the rig of a traditional sailing training vessel.
The ship’s name recalls former Norwegian cabinet minister Kristoffer Lehmkuhl.
Useful to know
Check whether the vessel is in Bergen before making a special trip.
Confirm any public access with the operator; a harbour sighting does not imply boarding.
