Fantoft Stave Church
Fantoft’s rebuilt stave church shows the steep timber form associated with Norway’s medieval churches. It is an architectural excursion south of central Bergen rather than a quick harbour stop.
The church originated in Fortun, was moved to Fantoft, and was reconstructed after the 1992 fire. Those changes are essential to understanding what stands there now. The visit offers a close look at timber church design, but it should not be described as untouched medieval fabric. Verify seasonal interior access; the exterior setting still has value when the building is closed.
