Alexanderplatz to Old Berlin

A walk from Alexanderplatz to Nikolaiviertel connects East German planning, the television tower, civic landmarks and Berlin's reconstructed medieval core beside the Spree.

Alexanderplatz to Old Berlin

Why go

Begin on Alexanderplatz and read the scale of the square before approaching the television tower. Reserve a tower slot separately if the panorama matters; security and queues can reshape the day. Continue past Rotes Rathaus and the Neptune Fountain toward St Mary's Church, then cross into Nikolaiviertel for St Nicholas' Church and the lanes near the Spree. The route is geographically compact but historically layered, moving from socialist-era planning to reconstructed old Berlin. Keep the ground-level walk as the core experience and treat the tower interior as an optional extension rather than a required first stop.

Useful to know

  • Keep the listed sequence, but drop optional stops when an interior visit or transport connection takes longer than planned.
