Why go
Choose this route if you enjoy watching a city change character as you walk. The Church of the Holy Ghost opens the day near the upper Old Town, while Spitalgasse and the Pfeiferbrunnen keep you among Bern's arcades and fountains. A climb to the University of Bern gives the walk a different setting before you cross back toward the museum quarter. The Swiss Alpine Museum makes a substantial final visit and connects the capital to the landscapes beyond it. The university stop adds a climb before the museum, which remains the day's main indoor commitment. Allow time for the uphill stretch and the later cross-town walk.
