Campos Elíseos Theatre
Campos Elíseos Theatre brings a richly decorated Art Nouveau façade to a central Bilbao side street. Its exterior is the dependable stop; performances require a programme check.
Stand opposite the entrance to take in the ornamental stonework that earned the theatre its local nickname, the Chocolate Box. It offers an architectural counterpoint to Arriaga’s grander riverfront setting and rewards a brief detour through the Ensanche. The narrow street rewards a slower look.
What to look for
The 1902 theatre is known for an Art Nouveau façade by Jean Batiste Darroguy.
Useful to know
See the Art Nouveau façade from Bertendona Street; check the theatre programme for performances.
