Santi Bartolomeo e Gaetano
Beside the Two Towers, this church pairs a Renaissance portico with a richly painted Baroque interior. It is a compact art stop when you are already crossing Strada Maggiore.
The portico began as part of a palace project before the church took its present form, an unusual history still visible in the frontage. Inside, look up to the dome and seek paintings by Bolognese artists including Ludovico Carracci and Guido Reni. The contrast rewards a short pause near the towers.
What to look for
The sixteenth-century portico runs along the church exterior.
Paintings by Bolognese masters enrich the interior.
The dome draws the eye above the nave.
Useful to know
Combine the church with an exterior view of the nearby Two Towers.
Check for services before entering as a sightseer.
