Why go
This is a first look at central Bordeaux for visitors who would rather read the city on foot than spend the day indoors. Begin at Place de la Victoire and use Rue Sainte-Catherine as the link through the centre. The Grand Théâtre changes the scale of the walk before the wide Place des Quinconces and Monument aux Girondins. End at Place de la Bourse, where the riverfront gives the route a clear finish. The stops are mostly streets, squares and exteriors, so allow time to pause and look rather than treating each one as a long visit.
