Porte de Bourgogne
This restrained eighteenth-century gateway faces Pont de pierre near the Garonne. It is a short architecture stop at the meeting of the bridge and old city.
The gateway uses the form of a triumphal arch with Doric columns but very little ornament. That restraint is easiest to notice when approaching from the bridge or looking back toward it. Its position makes it a useful marker between the river crossing and the streets leading into central Bordeaux.
