Bayon
Bayon is the face-towered temple at the heart of Angkor Thom. Its tight passages and carved galleries feel very different from Angkor Wat's open approach.
Move around the upper level to see how the stone faces change as you shift position. The lower galleries show scenes of everyday life and conflict, giving this compact temple a human scale. Combine it with nearby Angkor Thom monuments while the light reaches the carvings.
What to look for
Faces look out from the temple's many towers.
Bas-reliefs depict boats, markets and battles.
Useful to know
Walk the lower galleries before climbing toward the towers.
