El Meco Archaeological Zone
El Meco preserves a Maya ceremonial plaza north of central Cancún, with a stepped pyramid and smaller buildings that explain the settlement’s coastal importance.
The setting connects Maya architecture with the sea route toward Isla Mujeres. Around El Castillo, the scale changes from the dominant pyramid to smaller temples and columned spaces. A fig tree growing through one temple adds another visible layer to the encounter between the surviving stone buildings and their surroundings.
