Why go
Porte d’Aude gives a different approach to the Cité from the river side. The rising route, outer entrance and defended passage explain how the western gateway controlled movement toward the walls. It makes a useful pause after crossing from the Bastide, especially if you want to compare its terrain and sequence of defenses with Porte Narbonnaise.
