Why go
The fountain provides one of downtown's clearest compositions: ornamental stone and water in the foreground, Chicago's towers behind, and open parkland around it. Even when the jets are inactive, the sculptural detail merits a pause. Its generous plaza also reveals Grant Park's ceremonial scale.
What to look for
- Read the four sea-horse groups as references to the states bordering Lake Michigan.
- Move to the east side for the fountain framed against the downtown skyline.
Useful to know
- Water displays are seasonal, so treat the architecture and park setting as part of the visit.
- Walk here from Museum Campus or Millennium Park only if your day allows a substantial outdoor segment.
