Burnham Park
A long lakefront park stretching south from Grant Park, connecting beaches, harbors, cultural landscapes and neighborhoods along a largely public shoreline.
Why go
Burnham Park is less a single attraction than a way to experience Chicago's lakefront ideal. Select a segment to see how recreational paths, engineered shorelines and planted spaces mediate between Lake Michigan and the South Side. Each stretch reveals a different relationship between neighborhood and water.
What to look for
Follow a waterfront segment for changing views of the skyline and open lake.
Compare Museum Campus's formal landscape with neighborhood park sections farther south.
Useful to know
Choose a defined section before setting out; the park extends for miles and is not one continuous short stroll.
Bring wind protection and water because exposed lakefront conditions can change quickly.
