Follow Via Colombo toward Riomaggiore's small harbor, compare Manarola's boats and waterfront, then look out from Corniglia's higher position. Together they show how differently villages occupy the same steep coast. Add Vernazza or Monterosso separately if you want a harbor square or a broader beach setting.
What to look for
Riomaggiore's main street descends toward a small rocky harbor.
Manarola's lower village is closely tied to its boats and waterfront.
Corniglia sits on a headland above the sea.
Useful to know
Use the train between villages if you prefer village streets to a full trail day.
Allow for the climb from Corniglia station into the hilltop village.
The route, stop by stop
Times are planning estimates. Unknown visit durations start at an editable 30 minutes; access is checked separately.
Riomaggiore drops through a narrow valley to a small marina framed by tall, colorful houses. Its steep lanes make the harbor view memorable, but also demand some climbing.
Manarola packs a narrow marina, colorful houses and terraced vineyards into a steep coastal setting. Its upper church gives a second focus beyond the familiar harbor view.
Corniglia sits on a promontory above the sea rather than around a harbor. Come for its lanes and broad coastal outlook, with a substantial climb from the railway station.
Vernazza gathers its small harbour, waterfront church and defensive remains around a compact bay. The short walk between them reveals the village’s maritime layout.
