Copenhagen from the spire to the harbour
Start with the climb at the Church of Our Saviour, cross to Nyhavn’s painted waterfront, and finish with a longer walk around Kastellet’s ramparts.
Why go
This is an open-air Copenhagen day for people who like views, streets and a little walking more than long museum visits. The Church of Our Saviour starts high above Christianshavn; Nyhavn then brings the route down to the working shape of the old harbour. Continue north to Kastellet, where the grassy earthworks give room to wander and a different view of the waterfront. The three stops leave time to linger over the harbour rather than rush between interiors. The tower climb is the most demanding part. In poor weather, check conditions before committing to it and keep the rest of the walk flexible.

Church of Our Saviour pairs a Baroque interior with an exterior spiral spire above Christianshavn. The tower climb is the draw if you want a close view of the district’s roofs.
Nyhavn is a short canal street lined with painted historic townhouses and boats. Visit for the built waterfront scene and an easy walk through Copenhagen’s maritime past.
Kastellet is a star-shaped citadel whose grassy ramparts now make an outdoor walking loop near Copenhagen’s harbour. It is best for military history seen through the ground plan.
