Palacio de los Páez de Castillejo
This palace on Plaza de Jerónimo Páez houses Córdoba’s Archaeological Museum. Its sixteenth-century façade and layered courtyards are worth noticing alongside the museum collection.
Hernán Ruiz II designed the Renaissance portal like a triumphal arch, with pairs of columns and heroic figures around the doorway. Behind it, two courtyards show how the older house was reshaped in the sixteenth century. The palace also stands above remains of a Roman theatre, making the building itself part of the archaeological story.
What to look for
The main entrance uses columns and figures to suggest a triumphal arch.
Two courtyards organize the former residence behind the façade.
The palace occupies a site above Roman theatre remains.
Useful to know
Treat the palace and Archaeological Museum as one physical stop when planning your day.
Check museum access before relying on an interior view of the courtyards.
