The full story

A Renaissance gateway at the city end of the Roman Bridge. Its classical façade marks a passage used through Roman, Islamic and later Córdoba.

The gate gives the bridge a strong northern threshold. The Doric columns and squared opening show how sixteenth-century Córdoba recast an older entrance in classical form. Pause here before crossing: the gate, bridge and Calahorra Tower frame one connected river approach.

  • Pairs of Doric columns flank the central passage.
  • The gate stands where earlier Roman and Islamic entrances met the bridge.

See the exterior while moving between Plaza del Triunfo and the Roman Bridge.

Check official access information if you hope to use the upper viewpoint.
