Why go
The Posada pairs a surviving courtyard inn with a centre devoted to flamenco. You can read the old building from the cobbles upward, then move through rooms once used by the inn to explore the music and its performers. It is a useful stop on Plaza del Potro even when no performance is scheduled.
What to look for
- The cobbled central courtyard retains the inn's original layout.
- A wooden gallery overlooks rooms on the ground and upper floors.
- Former inn rooms now hold flamenco displays; the courtyard can host performances.
The full story
The Posada del Potro began as a fifteenth-century courtyard building on Plaza del Potro and served as an inn until 1972. Rooms and former stables gathered around a patio, while a covered wooden gallery linked the upper level. Some rooms were absorbed into neighboring houses, so only part of the inn survives. The city used the building for cultural purposes and made it a flamenco centre associated with singer Antonio Fernández, known as Fosforito. That change gives the visit two layers: the working shape of an old Córdoba inn and displays and performances devoted to a living musical tradition. Start in the courtyard and look up at the gallery before entering the rooms; the building's purpose is clearest from that shared open space.
Useful to know
- Walk through the courtyard before the displays to understand the building's original arrangement.
- If a performance matters to your visit, check the centre's programme before you go.
- Pair the inn with the Museo de Bellas Artes on Plaza del Potro for two different views of Córdoba's culture.
