Temple Emanu-El
A tower and neoclassical façade distinguish this former Jewish temple near Hendrikplein. The exterior tells a different chapter of religious history from the active synagogue nearby.
Built for the congregation that separated from Mikvé Israel in the nineteenth century, the temple later lost its religious function when the communities reunited. Its tower, fanlights and heavy cornices remain worth examining from outside. The restored building now houses the public prosecutor, so plan an architectural pause rather than a sanctuary visit.
