South Street Seaport Museum
This maritime museum spreads across waterfront galleries and historic vessels in the Seaport district. Its exhibitions connect the East River piers with the shipping and trading history that shaped New York.
Why go
The Seaport Museum lets the waterfront tell a working story rather than serve only as a skyline backdrop. Galleries examine the port city through objects and photographs, while vessels at the piers show the physical spaces where crews handled cargo and lived aboard. Moving between shore and ship makes the district’s nineteenth-century streets and surviving maritime structures easier to understand.
