From the Fukuoka World / Areas
Fukuoka City
Fukuoka is a bayfront city on northern Kyushu where Hakata’s merchant and temple quarter meets Tenjin’s urban center. Its compact districts make history, art, food streets and waterfront walks easy to combine.
Start in Hakata for temples and the city’s trading past, then cross toward Tenjin for shopping and architecture. Ōhori Park and the castle ruins offer a quieter central circuit, while Momochi pairs the city museum with a tower view and beach. These areas show different sides of Fukuoka without reducing the city to one landmark.
What to look for
Hakata’s temples and Kushida Shrine connect the old merchant district to its religious history.
Ōhori Park and the nearby castle ruins form a linked green and historical area.
Momochi brings together Fukuoka City Museum, Fukuoka Tower and the bayfront.
Useful to know
Plan by district: Hakata, Tenjin, the Ōhori area and Momochi each support a distinct outing.
