Where to Spend a Day in Fukuoka

Fukuoka’s sights make more sense in neighborhood groups than in a citywide checklist. Hakata, Tenjin, the Ōhori area and the bayfront each offer a different kind of day.

Why go

For older streets and religious sites, walk between Kushida Shrine, Tōchōji and Shōfukuji in Hakata. In Tenjin, combine the stepped ACROS building with nearby shopping passages. Around Ōhori Park, the castle ruins and art museum sit close enough for a varied outing; Fukuoka Tower and the Momochi waterfront make a separate coastal choice.

Useful to know

  • Keep Hakata’s temple cluster together and save the Momochi waterfront for another part of the day.
  • Use the Ōhori Park and castle area when you want to mix outdoor walking with a museum.
