Castle Road
Castle Road links palaces, fortresses and old towns from the Mannheim area across southern Germany toward Prague. Its great length makes it a menu of regional castle journeys, not one practical day route.
Why go
A western stretch pairs Schwetzingen Palace with Heidelberg Castle and the Neckar valley's smaller fortresses. Farther east, Nuremberg Castle and the fortified towns of Franconia tell a different story. The range lets you compare courtly residences, hilltop defenses and lived-in historic centres.
Useful to know
Select a Neckar, Franconian or Czech stretch before planning transport; the named route extends far beyond Germany.
Check access for individual castles, since some are primarily exterior viewpoints while others have interiors to visit.
