Brandenburg Gate.

Chapter 1Outdoor visit · Estimated

Start with Brandenburg Gate. Let a detail decide which thread you follow next.

2 min Walk15 min Visit24 min · Total

Outdoor walks and façade observations. Interior admission is not included.

The full story

Walk through Berlin's former city gate to see a monument whose meaning changed with Germany's division and reunification. The open square is an easy stop between nearby memorials.

The sandstone columns and Quadriga are familiar from photographs, but standing on Pariser Platz shows how the gate connects the city's historic avenue with its modern civic centre. During the Cold War it stood beside the Wall; today visitors can pass through it. Allow time to look from both sides rather than treating it as a single photo stop.

  • The Quadriga crowns the sandstone columns
  • Pariser Platz frames the gate from the east

Plan roughly 35 minutes; allow 60 if you want a slower visit.

This outdoor site can be visited without a fixed tour slot.
