German Avenue Road
This long scenic road links tree-lined avenues from the Baltic Sea toward Lake Constance. It is a driving theme about landscape and conservation, best approached in regional sections.
Why go
The route invites you to notice the trees that frame rural roads, not just the towns at either end. Its first section opened between Rügen and Reinsberg in 1993, and the wider project connects eastern and western Germany through the protection of old avenues. Choose a stretch where the road itself is the attraction.
Useful to know
Plan a regional segment rather than the full north–south route, which runs for thousands of kilometres.
Allow an unhurried drive on older tree-lined and sometimes cobbled roads, especially in former East German areas.
