Why go
The walk between forest and sea makes Jasmund more than a single cliff viewpoint. The high-shore route approaches Königsstuhl through beech woodland, then opens onto the pale chalk coast. Erosion constantly reshapes the cliffs: the collapse of Wissower Klinken in 2005 shows why the signed viewpoints matter as much for safety as for the view.
What to look for
- See the chalk coastline from the signed high-shore path.
- Notice the abrupt change from shaded beech forest to open Baltic views near Königsstuhl.
- Look for damp hollows in the Stubnitz woods, formed in part by ice-age processes.
Useful to know
- Stay on signed trails and viewpoints; chalk can fall from the cliffs, especially after storms.
- Check the separate hours and admission if you plan to enter the Königsstuhl visitor centre.
