Why go
The surviving tower belongs to an older stone church, while the nave and choir were rebuilt on a more monumental scale. Sculpture makes that change particularly readable: the northern entrance preserves twelfth-century carving, and the southern portals introduce later religious narratives. The church suits close attention to entrances as well as an appreciation of interior space.
What to look for
- The northern portal includes a carved depiction of the Devil.
- The main southern portal tells scenes from the life of Mary.
- A painted labyrinth survives on a wall in the tower.
Useful to know
- Include both north and south sides when looking at Hablingbo’s carved portals.
- Ask the parish about entry if you want to see the vaulted nave and painted labyrinth.
