Why go
Fragments of the earlier building are worked into the later façade: reliefs, a portal and parts of a decorative frieze. Above the western tower doorway, runes name Botvid the master mason. These small survivals make the church feel less like a single construction than a record of successive builders adapting what was already there.
What to look for
- Three slender original windows light the eastern choir wall.
- Vine-and-lily paintings decorate the vaults.
- The main portal faces north, towards the road.
Useful to know
- Circle the exterior for reused reliefs before seeking the tower-door inscription.
- Confirm interior access with the parish; do not rely on seeing the sacristy paintings during an ordinary visit.
