Why go
The choir windows belong to the fourteenth-century enlargement itself, so the coloured images remain closely connected with the architecture built to hold them. Scenes of Christ’s childhood and Passion occupy the east window; saints appear to the south. Outside, the smaller Romanesque nave shows how much more extensive the rebuilding was intended to be.
What to look for
- The choir portal’s childhood-of-Christ carvings are attributed to the Egypticus workshop.
- An inscription dates the altarpiece to 1496.
- A carved twelfth-century stone sarcophagus is embedded in the church wall.
Useful to know
- Confirm interior access with Fardhem-Garde parish before making the stained glass the reason for your journey.
- Compare the nave and choir proportions outside, then follow the different subjects across the choir windows.
