Cades Cove homes, church and mill

Why go

This is a full Cades Cove circuit for travelers interested in the valley as a lived-in community. Start at John Oliver Place, where a short approach leads to one of the early homesites. The Primitive Baptist Church adds a different side of community life before the road reaches the visitor center and nearby Cable Mill buildings. Continue around the one-way loop to Tipton Place and Carter Shields Cabin. The stops are close in theme, though traffic can make the drive slow; the park advises allowing two to four hours for the loop itself. Leave room for the short walks from pullouts, and check current road access before setting out.
