Ancient Agora of Athens
This open-air civic quarter explains everyday political and commercial Athens below the Acropolis. The site works particularly well before or after the nearby Acropolis.
The Temple of Hephaestus and reconstructed Stoa of Attalos give two very different perspectives on public life around the ancient square. Follow the paths between them to understand the scale of the civic centre. The archaeological ground is exposed, so plan the outdoor portion before the hottest part of a summer day.
What to look for
Link the Temple of Hephaestus with exhibits in the Stoa of Attalos.
Useful to know
Wear shoes suited to uneven paths; pair the open site with the Stoa of Attalos collection only after checking its current access.
