Iao Valley
ʻĪao Valley is a steep, green West Maui valley with a prominent ridge called Kūkaemoku. Its short paths combine scenery with a significant Hawaiian history site.
Why go
The ridge often called ʻĪao Needle is seen end-on rather than standing as an isolated spire. The valley was also the setting of a major eighteenth-century battle. Steep green walls and fast-changing rain make the landscape feel enclosed and dynamic.
What to look for
Kūkaemoku appears as a sharp ridge end-on.
Steep green walls surround ʻĪao Stream.
