Lyman House Memorial Museum
The Lyman Museum in Hilo pairs natural-history collections with an 1838 mission house. It is a useful indoor introduction to island geology, culture and nineteenth-century domestic life.
Why go
The modern exhibits and older house offer two distinct forms of interpretation. Collections explain volcanic and biological change, while the house shows the material world of missionary settlement. Seeing both parts in one visit makes Hilo’s natural history and nineteenth-century social history easier to compare than either setting alone.
What to look for
The 1838 mission house contrasts with newer galleries.
Exhibits connect island geology and human history.
Useful to know

Use the museum as an indoor Hilo anchor.
