Makapuu Point Light
Makapuʻu Point Light stands on Oʻahu’s southeastern headland. The paved uphill route offers sea-cliff views and a clear look toward the lighthouse from above.
Why go
The lighthouse’s large lens and exposed position reflect the importance of this coast to navigation. The walk is as much about ocean and headland as the building, which is not generally entered. Start with enough daylight, carry water and expect sun and wind on the unshaded climb.
What to look for
The lighthouse stands below the headland path.
The uphill trail surveys Oʻahu’s southeast coast.
Useful to know
Bring water for the exposed climb.
Finish before daylight fades.
