Manuka State Wayside Park
Manukā State Wayside Park provides a forest break on the long South Kona road. An arboretum and shaded trail contrast with the drier lava landscapes nearby.
Why go
The park works as a deliberate pause between distant west and south coast stops. Its trees and walking path make a shift in the island’s ecology visible without a long hike. A short walk here helps break up a drive dominated by coastal viewpoints, and the quieter forest setting gives the route a different texture.
What to look for
Arboretum planting softens the roadside forest stop.
The setting contrasts with nearby dry lava country.
Useful to know
Check state park trail notices.
Carry water even for a short forest walk.
