Tennispalatsi

Tennispalatsi is a 1938 Functionalist landmark in Kamppi that now places HAM Helsinki Art Museum and a 14-auditorium cinema complex beneath one roof.

Tennispalatsi

Why go

The building is worthwhile when contemporary art or a film is already part of the plan. Its conversion from Olympic-era tennis hall to dense cultural complex gives the clean Functionalist exterior a second layer of interest beyond the exhibitions and screenings inside.

What to look for

  • Helge Lundström designed the building with four tennis courts for the planned 1940 Olympics.
  • Basketball preliminary games were held here during the 1952 Summer Olympics.
  • HAM and Finnkino’s 14-screen multiplex now share the former sports building.

Useful to know

  • HAM, the cinema and other tenants set their own admission and opening arrangements.
  • Check the current official opening and access information before visiting, as arrangements can change by season or event.
