Why go
This compact route is for anyone who prefers streets and buildings to a long museum session. Bembo Fountain begins a sequence of public spaces, while Agios Minas Cathedral provides a change of scale. Continue through Lions Square to Saint Mark’s former basilica, then compare the arcaded Venetian Loggia with nearby Saint Titus Church. Much of the pleasure is in looking carefully at the exteriors, so the walk does not depend on every interior being open. If an exhibition is running at Saint Mark’s, give it the optional time; otherwise use that pause in the square. The short legs leave room for a relaxed meal.
