Why go
A Houston label gives an ordinary drinks stop a local reference point. Saint Arnold's story reaches back to the city's early craft beer scene, while its beer garden offers a different experience from ordering its beer in a restaurant. Decide how much of your outing you want to devote to brewing itself.
The full story
Saint Arnold shipped its first keg in 1994. Founders Brock Wagner and Kevin Bartol started the company in Houston, with Wagner bringing a homebrewer's interest to commercial brewing. That origin gives the name a place in the city's beer history beyond any individual seasonal release. The distinction between brewery and pub matters when planning an evening. A pub brings together beers made in different places; a brewery visit focuses attention on the people and production behind one label. Saint Arnold's beer garden and restaurant on Lyons Avenue provide a setting for the latter, separate from its public tours. Look at the current beer selection rather than planning around a remembered seasonal name. The brewery distinguishes year-round, seasonal and special releases, so a particular beer and a production tour are separate reasons to visit.
