Why go
This compact walk suits visitors who want the city’s history at street level before spending time with Highland collections. Start among the older buildings around Church Street, browse the Victorian Market, and look at the Town House before entering Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. The castle adds a higher viewpoint and the cathedral brings the route down to the river. Most connections are only a few minutes on foot, leaving room to linger over exhibits. Abertarff House and the castle can be appreciated from outside if entry is unavailable; the museum, market and outdoor landmarks still make a coherent day.
