Great Lavra Bell Tower
The Great Lavra Bell Tower gives the monastery its strongest vertical landmark. Its exterior rewards close looking even if you do not include a stair climb.
The tower's stacked tiers make a clear architectural counterpoint to the lower churches around it. From the courtyard, follow the changing column orders up to the gilded summit to see how a tall structure is broken into readable stages. An available upper-tier visit adds another perspective, but the design is worth examining from ground level too.
What to look for
Four tiers rise above the Upper Lavra courtyards.

Useful to know
Ask which climbing tiers are available before choosing a tower visit.
Allow for stairs if climbing; the first-tier video viewpoint offers a different way to see elevated views.
