Why go
Come for Kraków’s clearest concentration of medieval urban form. At roughly 40,000 square meters, the open square gives enough distance to compare the Renaissance Cloth Hall, Gothic church towers, the Town Hall Tower and rows of historic townhouses in a single sweep.
What to look for
- The Renaissance Cloth Hall occupies the center rather than an edge of the square.
- St. Mary’s unequal Gothic towers rise above the surrounding townhouses.
- The Town Hall Tower and small Church of St. Adalbert show the square’s contrasting scale.
Useful to know
- Walk around the square’s perimeter as well as through its center to compare the façades and sightlines.
- Use the square to connect St. Mary’s Basilica, the Cloth Hall and the Royal Road on one continuous walk.
- Check individual monument schedules separately; the open square has no single admission window.
