Government Palace
The seat of Peru’s government forms the north side of Plaza Mayor. Its 1938 facade is the dependable reason to stop; interior visiting needs separate confirmation.
The palace gives Plaza Mayor its strongest civic edge. Compare its monumental twentieth-century design with the cathedral and Archbishop’s Palace opposite. The contrast shows that the square’s apparently unified setting was built and rebuilt across centuries, rather than surviving intact from the colonial period.
