Why go
The long pink complex adds Portugal’s living seat of the presidency to Belém’s sequence of royal and maritime monuments. Its position above the square makes the changing façades and terraces legible from public space even when interior access is unavailable.
What to look for
- Five linked buildings form the palace’s principal 17th-century façade.
- The palace rises on a low hill directly behind Praça Afonso de Albuquerque.
- The Pátio das Damas façade is organized in two levels of windows and a central portal.
Useful to know
- Plan on viewing the palace from Praça Afonso de Albuquerque unless an official presidential source confirms public access.
- Keep this as a short exterior stop between the National Coach Museum and central Belém.
