Why go
The district shows how Lisbon converted former industrial land into a waterfront quarter for the 1998 World Exposition and kept much of that infrastructure in daily use. A walk can connect the marina, surviving Expo buildings and Tagus views without the steep gradients found in older neighborhoods.
What to look for
- Tagus promenades and open green spaces define the district's river edge.
- The marina sits within the broad Expo-era waterfront landscape.
- Vasco da Gama Tower and other 1998 structures give the skyline its modern character.
Useful to know
- Plan a linear riverside walk rather than treating the extensive district as one compact square.
- Combine the promenade with Vasco da Gama Tower if a high viewpoint matters to you.
- The open waterfront has little shelter from sun and wind, so prepare for the day's conditions.
