Why go
This route suits people interested in contrasting buildings and the city’s institutional history. Liverpool Cathedral gives you scale, stonework and stained glass; the Metropolitan Cathedral answers it with a circular plan and coloured lantern. The walk between them is part of the experience, so leave room to pause rather than treating both as quick photographs. At Victoria Gallery & Museum, the redbrick university building changes the scale again and adds collections indoors. A Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre tour is an optional extension if a suitable timed place is available. Check cathedral services, museum opening and tour reservations before setting out; worship and events can alter visitor access.
