From the Macau World / Places

Kun Iam Tong

Explore one of Macau’s larger Buddhist temples, with linked halls and courtyards dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy and other figures.

Kun Iam Tong

Why go

The present buildings date to the seventeenth century, though the temple tradition is older. Porcelain roof figures, richly decorated halls and the sequence of open courts make this a substantial visit beyond a single shrine room. It is an active place of worship, so follow on-site rules and allow visitors space around altars.

What to look for

  • Porcelain figures on clustered roofs
  • Courtyard sequence and decorated halls

Useful to know

  • Allow a longer visit than for a small roadside shrine.
