Our Lady of Carmel Church
Visit the hilltop church above Taipa village and the green Taipa Houses, where the overlook helps explain the old shoreline.
Why go
Built in 1885, the church stands above what was once Taipa Praia. The slope ties together the church, garden and restored houses below, giving a compact picture of Portuguese-era settlement on the island. The site is best enjoyed as part of that short cluster, with time to look back toward the village streets.
