Cusco Art and History in Small Museums

Start at the Regional History Museum, compare contemporary and folk art near Plaza Regocijo, then cross the center for Santa Catalina and Casa Concha.

Cusco Art and History in Small Museums

Why go

Choose this route for a slower day focused on objects, paintings and the stories behind them. The Regional Historical Museum sets the historical frame; the nearby Cusco Contemporary Art Museum and Cusco Folk Art Museum shift the focus to more recent work and local craft. After a break around the central blocks, Santa Catalina Monastery Museum and Machu Picchu Museum at Casa Concha bring the walk back to historic museum settings. Casa Concha is linked to the history of Machu Picchu finds; check its current exhibition before assuming particular objects are on view. Each essential stop is close enough to reach on foot, but five museums can still feel full. Museo de Arte Precolombino is an optional finale for visitors who want another collection.
